Visual feedback for AI agents.

Pin a comment on the element that needs to change. Your coding agent reads it over MCP, makes the fix, and replies in the thread. pinthread is hosted, loads from one script tag, and the Free plan costs $0 a month.

Point at it instead of describing it

A screenshot or a chat message makes your agent guess which button you mean. A pinthread comment sits on the element itself, on the real page, so the agent knows where to look. Your team can talk the change through in the thread before the agent starts.

How it works in three steps

  1. Pin it on the live page. Open your site, click the pinthread button, and pin a comment to a button, image, text, or area. Teammates reply in the thread. Reviewers sign in with Google or comment as a named guest.
  2. Your agent reads it over MCP. Connect Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, or another MCP client to https://pinthread.dev/mcp with a token for your project. The agent calls list_threads, then get_thread for each comment.
  3. The agent fixes it and replies. It edits your code and checks the change. With a write token, it replies with what it changed and resolves the thread. A question stays open for you.

What your agent receives

Each thread names the exact place on the page:

  • The page URL
  • The element’s selector and visible text
  • The comment position or selected area
  • Every reply, with its author
  • Any attachments on the thread
Page: /pricing
Target: #annual-plan-button
Element text: Choose plan

Maya: Make it clear this is billed annually.
Alex: Keep the monthly equivalent visible too.

The MCP tool list shows every field.

Set it up

  1. Sign up free with Google and create a project for your site.
  2. Paste this script tag into your shared layout, with your project key. The install guide has the steps for each framework.
<script src="https://pinthread.dev/embed.js"
  data-project="YOUR_PROJECT_KEY" defer></script>
  1. In the project’s Agent access tab, create a token. A read token lists and reads threads. A write token can also reply and resolve.
  2. Connect your agent with the setup for your client:
claude mcp add --transport http pinthread https://pinthread.dev/mcp \
  --header "Authorization: Bearer $PINTHREAD_TOKEN"

Run it in your project with PINTHREAD_TOKEN set to your agent token.

pinthread and Agentation

Agentation is a popular tool for the same job. Both let you point at an element and give your agent the details. They differ in where the feedback lives:

  • Setup. pinthread is one script tag on any website. Agentation is an npm package and a React component that needs React 18 or later.
  • Where notes live. pinthread hosts the threads and shares them per project. Agentation keeps notes in your browser’s localStorage and clears them after 7 days. Its Agent Sync option also sends them to a server you run.
  • Agent access. pinthread is a remote MCP server at https://pinthread.dev/mcp. Agentation runs its MCP server on your machine, on port 4747 by default.
  • Who can comment. On pinthread, your team and named guests comment on the same page. Agentation notes stay in each person’s browser unless Agent Sync shares them.
  • Price. pinthread has a free hosted plan. Agentation is source available under PolyForm Shield 1.0.0.

Agentation does some things pinthread does not: it reads React component names from the page, quotes selected text, pauses animations, and offers four output formats. By default its notes never leave your machine.

Questions

What is visual feedback for AI agents?

Feedback that points at the real page instead of describing it. You click the element that needs to change and write a comment. Your coding agent gets the page URL, the element’s selector and visible text, the position, and every reply, so it does not have to guess which button you mean.

Which AI agents can read pinthread comments?

Any MCP client that supports streamable HTTP. The setup guides cover Claude Code, Cursor, and Codex. An agent without MCP can take the copied comments as a prompt.

Do I need React or an npm package?

No. pinthread loads from one script tag and keeps its interface in an isolated ShadowRoot. It works on plain HTML, React, Next.js, Astro, Vue, and site builders that accept custom code.

Does pinthread change my code?

No. Your agent edits your repository. pinthread stores the comments and gives your agent the context. It does not run an agent, upload your repository, or change your code.

Is it free?

Yes. The Free plan costs $0 a month, needs no credit card, and includes agent access over MCP.

How is pinthread different from Agentation?

Agentation is a React toolbar. It keeps notes in your browser and connects to an MCP server on your machine. pinthread is hosted: one script tag, shared threads for your team and guests, and a remote MCP server.
